King County Sheriff's Deputy, And Partner, Deal With A 15 Year Old Girl Who Get's "Real Lippy"

Man oh man, there are a lot of wonderful things about living here in the pacific northwest. Clean air, beautiful oceans and islands and trees, everything looks like it's from The X-Files or Twin Peaks. But unfortunately, we also have to deal with some asshole named, Paul Schene, who is a King County sheriff's deputy.

Yesterday a video was released of Paul using excessive force with a 15 year old girl in a SeaTac (which is between Seattle, WA and Tacoma, WA, for those of you not in the know) holding cell. The girl was removing her shoes and accidentally tossed one into the deputy's shin, which is apparently enough to get you thrown around by your hair and punched in the face a few times.

Despite the fact that there is obviously substantial video evidence, Schene has decided to plead not guilty. The King Country prosecutor has been quoted as saying "We believe this case is beyond just police misconduct, it's criminal misconduct. This is clearly excessive force." Apparently, Paul Schene has previously been under investigation for shooting two people and killing one of them, but no misconduct was ever found.

The other deputy in the video has not been charged, but stated that the girl had been "real lippy." Nice one dude.

Moore Watchmen

I am a pretty big fan of graphic novels, not to the point that I rush down to the comic book store every few days and pick up a new one, but enough to be pretty darn excited for Watchmen to come out next Friday (Thursday if you count the midnight show that me Haylee, Little Steph and Karl are going to be at).

I have something to admit right off the bat though, I have never actually read Watchmen. I know, I know; it's been recommend to be hundreds of times and guess I have just never gotten around to reading it, and now that the movie is only a few days away I don't really want to hear anything else before we go. Although, after years of people telling me to read it I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen.

I absolutely love other things that Allen Moore has written though, starting with The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which is unfortunately tainted by the supposedly awful film that was based on it, and The Killing Joke, a Batman one-off that eventually became much of the source material for The Dark Knight. I just finished reading all three volumes of Lost Girls. Lost Girls is amazing, but so explicit that I am almost afraid to even mention it here. A lot of stores simply refuse to carry it on there shelves for fear of getting shut down, if that tells you anything, so it is very hard to find. Regardless, it is a really amazing read but not for the faint of heart, or mind?

Kids Are Weird

Remember how in Family Ties, Michael J. Fox played Alex Keaton, a young republican who in the early years of the Reagan administration, rebelled against his hippie parents? Jonathan Krohn is kind of like that, but the kid is half as old and kind of scary, and instead of hippie parents it's the rest of the world.

Jonathan recently spoke at the Conservative Political Action conference...

Based on some of these posts lately, you might think that I consider myself a liberal, but honestly I don't. I'm not even a registered democrat and I am happy to consider myself independent. That being said, my independent opinion is that this kid scares the fuck out of me.

Let's try and encourage more kids to publish books about how to love and not how to fight...

On second thought, let's not.

I'm Teaching Your Son About The Universe

I honestly think that Tim And Eric Awesome Show is up there with the absolute funniest things that I have ever seen in my life. And this season, Season 4, they have really outdone themselves. This is especially true of the latest episode, called "Universe". Check out this amazing clip from "Universe", and if you like what you see I highly recommend tuning in to Cartoon Network at 12:30 next Sunday for yourself.

Also, there are full episodes at AdultSwim.com, Universe is right here.

Bobby Jindal Is A Moron

I am not sure if any of you caught this, but after the Presidential address to congress yesterday there was a "Republican Rebuttal", broadcast on most of the major new networks. Here is a clip that seems to be generating some intrest.

WHAT?!

As someone who lives very close to Mt. Saint Helen's, a very dangerous and still active volcano, I would like to think that the lives of those who live around it are worth a little more than what this kook Booby Jindal seems to think. Maybe Volcanoes seem like a joke to a governor from Louisiana, but here along the "ring of fire" in the west they can be just as dangerous as say... I don't know... a hurricane? I wonder what the governor from Louisiana would think if someone from over here in Washington was like:

"...wasteful spending, like something called Hurricane Monitoring, instead of monitoring hurricanes, the government should be monitoring is the downpour of spending in Washington, DC."

Bobby Jindal, you are a fucking moron.

Rock And Roll Specialists

It's 2:07 in the morning and this is what I am getting stoked on... just in case anyone out there cares.

Getting Older Sucks, But Not For Long

So my birthday is coming up very shortly, in just a little over a week, and I have been so damn busy that I really haven't figured out what it is that I am going to do to celebrate. If nothing else, some sort of dinner with friends is probably in order, but if anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear them. Hot air balloon ride? Dune buggy race?

Hopefully I will figure out something really fun to take my mind off the fact that I am getting yet another year older and, in case you haven't noticed it already, getting older sucks. Hopefully, by the time the singularity hits I will still be alive and then the idea of getting older won't exist and longer.

If the link above interested you, then click here to check out the reeeeeeeeeeally cool stuff.

Updates And Oscars

The Oscars are in two hours. Kick ass, that gives me something to watch while I spend all day and night in front of the computer, mixing away my life. On the plus side, I think that I am going to actually have Behold! A Pale Horse done by the time that I want it to be done, on the minus, I literally feel sick from too many hours inside. I managed to break it up yesterday with a walk around Lake Padden with a fantastic little playlist:

Bright Eyes - Reinvent The Wheel
Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me
Stevie Wonder - Isn't She Lovely
The National - Fake Empire
Mayday - The Captain
Muddy Waters - Mannish Boy

Not that anyone cares...

Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about these Academy Awards. Honestly, I think that it is a absolute shame that The Dark Knight wasn't nominated for Best Picture, but I suppose it's not really the academy's usual cup of tea. I would post my predictions but I don't think I have really seen enough of the nominated films to make an educated guess. In general, I think that Milk should bet the winner in most of the things that it is nominated, but I don't really think that it will other than Sean Penn for best actor in a leading role.

Is it just me?

Or is Dance Hall Days by Wang Chung the best song ever recorded?

Happy Birthday Geordi La Forge!

We all know that President's Day is coming up on the 16th, but did you know that President's Day is not actually legally "President's" day, nor is it really a combination of Washington and Lincolns birthdays. It's all very confusing, but if you are up for it read here and it might explain a little.

Anyway, I was thinking that with all this confusion about who to honor on President's Day, maybe we should think about turning to our future heroes instead of ones from the past. Heroes that maybe haven't even been born yet. That being said, I recommend to all of you that on this Monday you honor chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-D and USS Enterprise-E, Mr. Geordi La Forge.

No, this is not a completely random request. Geordi was (will be) born on February 16th, 2335 in the African Confederation on Earth, in other words, President's Day. Think about it.

Waves And Soundtoys

I just made a purchase that I am fucking thrilled about. For the longest time all of the plug-ins that I have used on Protools have been the default ones. The free trials that come with the program and the standard, run of the mill effects that get the job done but can't really preform the really fancy tricks. Today though, I finally purchased a copy of Waves. This is the stuff that they have down at Bayside, and almost all other studios, and it rips. I got the Platinum bundle which, contrary to it's name is not actually the best one (Diamond and Mercury are above it), but it does contain 30 individual plug-ins from the L2 Ultramaximizer for Mastering, to the Enigma for getting weird.

I also managed to get a copy of the Soundtoys bundle, which contains Echoboy, something that I have been getting recommended to me for years because of my love of reverb and delay.

Stoked.

Don't Mess With This Hamster

Have you guys seen this yet?

I guess it's true what they say, it's always the last person you would expect. Rodney Stanger seems abnormally cuddly.

Inglourious Basterds Trailer

The trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds has finally made it up online. I was painfully stoked for this movie even before the trailer and this not only confirms my expectations but takes them even higher. Fuck this looks rad.

I am interested to see what Eli Roth can do in such a major role. Apparently, he also guest directed a film-within-the-film called "Nation's Pride."

Jenni Potts, Kristin And The Dance Off!

I just finished up doing a little guitar teching for Jenni Potts down at The Nightlight. Everything pretty much went off without a hitch and it was a great show, and me and Kristen even had some time to dance behind the stage. Sweet!

Kristin plays music on her own and was in a band called The Trucks. Jenni Potts has her music here, check them both out because they both rip.

Twitter Time

I just set up this twitter thing on my blog, as you can see right here on the right side. I don't know much about it as of yet but apparently you can "follow me" on there, so I guess that might be good if you want updates on how Behold! A Pale Horse is coming along. Twitter is probably going to be a better place for short posts... like this one!

Radiohead Pwns The Grammys

It's true, Radiohead did pwn the Grammys, but first some other news...

I have to say that I am really happy for Mark that Blink-182 have reunited. Actually, I am happy for all of them, and I am happy for the rest of the world because apparently they are going to have a record coming out in summer 2009.

I've said it once and I will say it again, nobody does pop punk better than Blink-182. They are so far beyond most of what makes up that genre.

Apparently, Coldplay took home Best Rock Album for Viva La Vida, which I think is deserved, and In Rainbows got Radiohead the award for Best Alternative Album.

An finally, Radiohead also provided the highlight of the night with a bad ass performance of 15 Step featuring the USC marching band. Check it out and prepare to be floored.

Chicago Needs Younger Cops

Good god, apparently the police force in Chicago needs to work on there observation skills. The Associated Press reports that a 14 year old boy "donned a uniform, walked into a Chicago police station and managed to get an assignment - patroling in a squad car for five hours before he was detected." A 14 year old kid! He went out on patrol with another officer for 5 hours and nobody noticed anything until he finished and the other officers noticed that he didn't have a star on his uniform. The Chicago PD is currently "investigating how the deception went undetected for so long in what they described as a serious security breach." I should hope so!

(Looks pretty legit to me, somebody get this kid a gun.)

Monopoly: The Movie

Hollywood really seems to be digging everywhere they can to find new movie ideas. From remakes to graphic novels to Disneyland rides, but apparently the strangest is yet to come. I just read the other day that none or than Ridley Scott going to be directing an upcoming movie based on the classic Parker Brothers game Monopoly. Yes, that Ridley Scott, the guy that directed Blade Runner and Alien. Apparently he is looking to give the film "a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic 'Blade Runner.'"

An early scene has already leaked from the project and it actually looks way better than I thought it would...

Okay, so that clip was a joke, but the actual movie is not. What a weird and wonderful world.

To Buy A Gun Covers

I have no idea why, but somehow there is a huge surplus of European bands covering the Idiot Pilot song "To Buy A Gun" which, as you may or may not know, I wrote. Something about the fact that English is obviously a second language to these guys makes me happy because they are really trying. So rad. I hope somebody over there actually records one of these someday.

New Morrissey Record!

Holy Shit! There is a new Morrissey album coming out on the 17th of this month! That is only like two weeks. This one really snuck up on me but I am utterly thrilled with the news, and if this single is any indication then the record is going to be incredible. Check out the video for the brand new track, "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris", below.

Sorry about the ads before and after, it's actually the best video I could find. Hey Morrissey's label, get on that shit. While we are at it, check out this song that is apparently also on the new record, but was released last year on the greatest hits record.

Morrissey - All You Need Is Me

It seems crazy to say, but I think the best of Morrissey may be yet to come.

Christian Bale Gets Super Pissed

Has anyone out there heard about how pissed Christian Bale gets? I saw a bunch of stuff about this on the news and decided to check out the actual recording, and it is rad. This is the real audio of Bale getting angry when the assistant DP wanders through a shot while filming Terminator 4. Personally, I don't think that he seems all that out of line, given the circumstances. On a movie like Terminator something like that can cost the production hundreds of thousands of dollars, just because somebody wasn't paying attention, and if you are right in the middle of an intense scene it would be easy to get that riled up. Either way, this is rad.

A Pop Quiz, In Funny Photo Form

I finally did it. Who knows how this is going to go, although based on the photoshops that I came up with I think that this is going to be thoroughly weird. Anyway, welcome to the very first How-Long-To-Sing-This-Song-Guess-The-Band-Or-Artist-By-The-Weird-Picture contest. I promise that I will think of a shorter name if I ever do this again.

So here is how this works. Each of the pictures below can be described as the name of a particular band or musical artist. If you think you know the answers, leave them in a comment. Think of it as Scene It! blog edition.

Ryan **** and Mitch Hedberg Take On The Boss

Did you guys catch The Boss tonight during the Superbowl halftime show? Holy fuck that ripped. I like Ryan ****'s (Idiot Pilot drummer) idea that The Boss is in charge of all rock and roll because, you know, he's the boss. So that means when you stumble across bands like Brokencyde, you can take it up with The Boss because Bruce is the guy in charge, regardless. He's The Boss of all music.

Anyway, sorry about the rambling but I think it's really funny. Check out the video below if you missed it.

When Bruce asks the crowd is there is "anybody alive out there?" I can't help but think of the late, great Mitch Hedberg and his classic heavy metal joke...

"I went to a heavy metal concert. The singer yelled out, 'How many of you people feel like human beings tonight?' And then he said, 'How many of you feel like animals?' The thing is, everyone cheered after the animals part, but I cheered after the human beings part because I did not know there was a second part to the question.

I tried to find a video of Mitch telling this joke because it's not really all that funny on paper but I don't think that there is one online. Ironically though, the video below the first thing that I stumbled across while looking. Check out the first joke Mitch tells.

Talk about full circle, man.
