The Reinvited

There is a scene in the trailer for the new movie, The Uninvited, where a ghostly hand reaches our from under the kitchen counter and grabs somebody. Now that is not exactly uncharted cinematic ground, but combine that with the fact that The Uninvited is about a crazy mom who may or may not be responsible for the deaths of two sisters who may or may not be crazy themselves, and it starts looking a little like the Korean film, A Tale Of Two Sisters.

Oh wait a minute, it IS a Tale Of Two Sisters.

So apparently The Uninvited is a remake of the K-Horror masterpiece, A Tale Of Two Sisters, which is coincidentally one of the best horror movies I have. The original is absolutely beautiful, with amazing cinematography and interesting pacing more akin to something like The Shining than say, The Ring (Nothing against the ring.) But regardless of how amazing A Take Of Two Sisters was, I am a little dubious about this remake.

Here is where I should probably point out that I totally understand the confusion for those of you who read my "The Last House On The Left" post a few days ago. I am very satisfied with most of the classic American horror remakes (The Hills Have Eyes, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) but when Hollywood goes for the Asian horror stuff the results, other than The Ring, have been colossal bummers. The original Premonition is cool, The Eye is a classic, and the original One Missed Call is even better than A Tale Of Two Sisters.

One thing that The Uninvited does have going for it, though, is the fact that Arielle Kebbel is in it, and Arielle Kebbel is pretty much the babe of the century. Yes, babe of the century.

Only time will tell, I suppose, and here's hoping, but the PG-13 rating isn't looking too good right now. I am sure that Rotten Tomatoes will have something to say about it in a few days.
